Even under new leadership, some of the New England Patriots' traditions have not changed. Coach Jerod Mayo has continued the Practice Player of the Week designation after each victory.
After the Week 1 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, eight players were recognized for their contributions leading up to the game, donning black jerseys at practice.
Coach Mayo emphasized the importance of recognizing players who might not often receive attention, stating, 'The practice players make sure they do a good job going out there, giving us a good look and preparing us for the game.'
Notably, only wide receiver Kayshon Boutte made the game day roster from those recognized, highlighting the difference between practice contributions and game day participation.
