New England Patriots links 9/09/24 - Run game, O-line, physical defense star in solid Week 1 win
Briefly

Happy Week 1 Victory Monday, everyone! 'Undefeated til we ain't' as they say. The last voicemail message I received from my father before he passed away was in December of 2010. We had hosted a family Christmas party and the next day he called with this brief message, "You put on a good show." That's how I would sum up the Pats' 16-10 upset win over the Bengals on Sunday.
New England didn't suddenly explode on offense, Cincinnati was competitive. What the Patriots did was give the game their best effort. They had a solid, methodical game plan and stuck to it. For a young team with a new, young coaching staff, they played like seasoned veterans. It was more than I could have hoped for.
My expectations were low going in: Please don't be sloppy; Look like a team that belongs in the NFL; Give fans something to root for! Happy to say, all three boxes were checked and more.
We waited for the flags to fly or for the holey O-line to get Jacoby jacked up - and hopefully not injured. But there was no cause for concern. No delay of game penalties or play-calling issues to hamstring the offense out of the gate. Special teams did their jobs. I can honestly say it was a pleasure to watch and I was proud of the team's efforts.
