Sam Darnold will start at quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks in his first Super Bowl against the New England Patriots on Feb. 8 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Darnold was the third overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft out of USC and initially struggled with the New York Jets. He later played for the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings before signing with the Seahawks in March 2025. The Darnold family includes athletic siblings and parents; sister Franki played volleyball at the University of Rhode Island. Father Mike played football at the University of Redlands and worked thirty years as a medical gas plumber who emphasized dependability and a strong work ethic for his children.
