Two former employees of other teams, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, were previously dismissed or passed over by their former teams but now lead franchises in the Super Bowl. Vrabel was fired as Tennessee Titans head coach in early 2024 after a power struggle with ownership. Darnold was passed over by four previous teams: Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, and New York Jets. Some of those former teams failed to reach the playoffs this year.
