Sources: Cardinals set to hire Rams' Mike LaFleur as head coach
"TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals are expected to hire Mike LaFleur as their new head coach with the Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator set to receive a five-year contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday. The Cardinals met with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak on Saturday night but with Kubiak expected to become the Raiders' head coach after the Super Bowl, Arizona pivoted to another offensive coordinator in the NFC West."
"LaFleur comes to Arizona with both experience as an offensive playcaller and a coaching pedigree. He spent the last three seasons as the Rams' offensive coordinator and was the New York Jets' offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2022. However, LaFleur didn't call the plays for the Rams, who reached the NFC Championship Games on the shoulders of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who threw for the fourth-most passing yards of his career in an MVP-caliber season."
The Cardinals are expected to hire Mike LaFleur as head coach on a five-year contract. Arizona met with Klint Kubiak but pivoted when Kubiak was expected to become the Raiders' head coach. Arizona initially interviewed LaFleur virtually and hosted him for a two-day interview, including dinner with team executives on Jan. 26 and 27. LaFleur, 38, will replace Jonathan Gannon, who was fired on Jan. 5 after a 3-14 season. LaFleur has experience as an offensive playcaller and has served as offensive coordinator for the Rams and the Jets. The Cardinals own the third overall pick and have a major question mark at quarterback.
