NFL star, East Bay native Najee Harris injured in Fourth of July fireworks explosion, sources confirm
Briefly

NFL running back Najee Harris, a native of Antioch, was injured in a fireworks explosion on July 4, causing concerns about his future with the Los Angeles Chargers. The incident occurred early on July 5 on Spanos Street, injuring multiple individuals. Harris was initially treated at John Muir Hospital before being transferred to Stanford Hospital. Police confirmed that some victims received on-site treatment, while others sought medical assistance independently. Social media buzzed with speculation about Harris's injury, reminiscent of NFL player Jason Pierre-Paul's recovery from a similar incident in 2015.
"This is an unfortunate accident, and our thoughts are with the family and all those affected during this difficult time," police wrote in a July 5 Facebook post about the incident.
In March, Harris signed a one-year free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Chargers worth up to $9.25 million, according to ESPN.
Harris totaled 4,312 rushing yards and 1,149 passing yards and scored 34 touchdowns as a Steeler.
NFL veteran Jason Pierre-Paul continued for some nine seasons after suffering a major hand injury in a 2015 fireworks incident.
