NFL and ESPN reach nonbinding agreement for sale of NFL Network and other media assets
Briefly

ESPN has reached a nonbinding agreement with the NFL to acquire NFL Network, NFL Fantasy, and distribution rights for RedZone. This follows nearly five years of negotiation since the NFL first sought to sell its media assets. The NFL will receive a 10% equity stake in ESPN. Further agreements include licensing certain NFL content for use on NFL Network and other properties. The deal requires final negotiations and approval from NFL owners while ESPN plans to launch a direct-to-consumer service that enhances its offerings with additional NFL programming.
"Sometimes great things take a long time to get to the point where it's right. And we both feel that it is at this stage," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a call with The Associated Press.
"We have been talking about it in earnest for the last few years. But interestingly enough, we started talking about this over a decade ago but nothing really ended up happening," Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a call with the AP.
