McCarthy set for on-field work, Wentz hurting
"extensive work"
"pretty sore"
"That will be something that we'll be taking a look at throughout the week."
"I'm encouraged with where he's at right now,"
J.J. McCarthy missed three games with a high right ankle sprain and got on the field Monday as the Vikings prepare him to officially return to practice next week. The team plans to give McCarthy extensive on-field work during the bye week to accelerate recovery and evaluate readiness. Veteran Carson Wentz started all three games in McCarthy's absence, winning two starts while throwing for 759 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Wentz experienced a left shoulder issue that was pretty sore and required further evaluation. McCarthy opened the season as the starter, rallied in Week 1 and struggled in Week 2 while playing through the ankle injury.
