Leagues back bill to disable drones at stadiums
Briefly

The NFL, MLB, NCAA, and NASCAR have endorsed a new bill in Congress aiming to empower state and local law enforcement to disable drones at sporting events. Sponsored by Senate members Tom Cotton and Jacky Rosen, the DEFENSE Act responds to increasing safety threats posed by drones during events. Currently, only federal agents have the authority to disable such threats, prompting calls for local agencies to have similar capabilities to better protect fans, particularly as sporting events attract millions each year.
"Local law enforcement already protects the perimeter of these events. We already expect them to stop a dump truck that would cause harm, so we need to also give them the tools to protect the airspace from weapons and biological threats."
"If enacted, this legislation would dramatically increase the security of our stadiums and the safety of the 70,000,000 fans who attend our games annually."
