Lucas Carneiro kicked a 47-yard field goal in the closing seconds as Ole Miss defeated Georgia 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl to secure a College Football Playoff semifinal berth. Ole Miss improved to 13-1 and will face the 12-2 Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal on Jan. 8. Miami won six straight games after a Nov. 1 loss at SMU and beat No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl to make the final four. Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU; Pete Golding replaced him and is 2-0 as head coach.
