Drew Sanders, a linebacker for the Denver Broncos, suffered a right ankle/foot injury during a practice session and was carted off the field. After finishing a play by hopping on one leg, medical staff evaluated him on the sidelines. Coach Sean Payton stated there was no update on the injury's severity, clarifying it was not related to Sanders' previous Achilles injury. Sanders missed most of the last season due to a torn Achilles and had been serving as a backup at inside linebacker during training camp.
Sanders finished a play hopping on one leg, as he attempted to keep his weight off his right leg. The Broncos' medical staff examined Sanders' right ankle and then right foot on the sideline.
Broncos coach Sean Payton said he had no update on the severity of Sanders' injury, but added 'it's not his Achilles.'
Sanders, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon in preseason workouts last year, was later taken for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam.
Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has consistently lauded Sanders' athleticism and said during the offseason he was optimistic about the impact Sanders could have as a situational player.
