The New England Patriots began the 2026 offseason after a Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The team added defensive line talent and also signed free-agent safety Kevin Byard III on a one-year deal. Byard was not an obvious positional need, but his experience and recent performance made the move compelling. In 2025, Byard recorded 93 tackles, four tackles for loss, eight passes defended, and seven interceptions that ended drives and could change games. His output earned first-team All-Pro honors.
