John Morton and Kelvin Sheppard have become the new offensive and defensive coordinators for the Detroit Lions. They replace Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, who have taken head coaching positions elsewhere. The Lions are part of a rare group of teams that have lost both coordinators to head coaching jobs in the same offseason. Sheppard, who has extensive NFL playing experience, has been with the Lions since 2021. Morton, with a diverse coaching background, was previously an offensive assistant for the team last season.
New offensive coordinator John Morton and defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard have taken over the roles after previous OC Ben Johnson and DC Aaron Glenn landed head coaching jobs.
The Lions are the fourth team since 2000 to lose both of their coordinators to head coaching jobs in the same offseason, joining the Eagles, Bengals and Chargers.
Sheppard, 37, enters his fifth season with the organization after arriving in 2021, previously serving as outside linebackers coach before his promotion.
Morton, 55, was previously the Lions' senior offensive assistant in 2022 and has experience as passing game coordinator with the Broncos.
