Kate Hudson's 'Running Point' Character Is Based On An NBA Legend
Briefly

Netflix's Running Point features Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, the newly appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves. The character draws inspiration from Jeanie Buss, president of the Los Angeles Lakers, who became a landmark figure in the NBA after taking over following her father's death. Buss, alongside business partner Linda Rambis, approached Mindy Kaling to create the series. Their efforts led to a nostalgic connection, as Hudson had previously shadowed Buss during her teenage years at the Forum, reinforcing the personal ties bridging the fictional and real worlds of basketball ownership.
As a teenager, Hudson - who Buss personally recommended for the role - used to attend hockey games at the Los Angeles Forum with her mom, Goldie Hawn.
Buss was general manager of the Forum at the time, and Kate would actually 'shadow' her behind the scenes. 'She's got such a curious mind. She's an amazing talent.'
Buss and her longtime friend and business partner Linda Rambis reached out to Mindy Kaling about a potential comedy series, and 'She got it right away.'
