During Super Bowl Opening Night, Philadelphia Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie clarified that he is not seeking an ownership stake in the Boston Celtics, a team he admires from his childhood. He emphasized his commitment to the Eagles, expressing hope to win another Super Bowl for Philadelphia. Lurie, who previously attempted to buy the New England Patriots, highlighted the contrast between that aspiration and his dedication to his current franchise, recently valued at around $8 billion.
I'm not really interested in acquiring another sports team... My whole focus is on my love of the Eagles and to win another Super Bowl for Philadelphia.
Lurie was born and raised in Massachusetts and grew up a fan of New England sports... I sort of see it as like a kindred soul in the NBA.
The valuation of the franchise has since ballooned to around $8 billion... Lurie sold 8 percent of the franchise to outside investors for over $600 million in December.
Wyc (Grousbeck) has been an outstanding owner. I love the way they've developed that team... But it's not something that's top of mind.
