Intuitive Machines’ Athena lunar lander reached the Moon but its landing status remained unclear hours later, raising concerns over its attitude and autonomy. CEO Steve Altemus announced at a press conference that the lander may not be properly oriented. Although it is generating some solar power, the situation resembles previous troubles faced by its predecessor, Odyssey, which had issues with its landing. Efforts are now focused on determining Athena's location, orientation, and power levels to proceed effectively with the mission.
We don't believe we're in the correct attitude on the surface of the Moon yet again. I don't have all the data yet.
The main priority right now is to get a picture of our orientation and location on the surface so that we know precisely how to move forward with the mission.
