La Sirena: Shop owner heeds siren call of Mexican folk art
Briefly

La Sirena, an eclectic shop in Manhattan's East Village, showcases handmade Mexican folk art, owned by Dina Leor, who identifies as Argentine American with a passion for Mexican culture. After falling in love with Mexico as a child, Leor turned her affinity for art and culture into a small business, where she emphasizes the importance of supporting artisans. Despite operating on a tight budget, the shop thrives as a hub of hope and creativity, offering an authentic cultural experience and a personal connection between the creator and consumer.
Everything I'm proud to say is made by another human being which means a lot to me it's important. It's just joy and love and color and creativity and magic.
Have you thought about the people you've been able to support through this shop? I didn't start it because of that I just started buying stuff because it was so gorgeous.
