Laid off in 2023, I initially accepted a hybrid role requiring a long commute, which became unsustainable. My experience during the COVID-19 pandemic allowed me to balance motherhood and remote work effectively. After struggling to find fully remote positions post-layoff, I took a role with a major publisher that required three days of commuting. However, the toll on my family life led me to ultimately quit in search of a career path that would better suit my parenting responsibilities.
I secured a new role with a large national publisher - on the condition that I commute into their downtown Manhattan offices three days a week.
Gratefully, I eased into working mother life remotely. I edited and wrote from the comfort of my home, not having to worry about driving on the highway.
