Employees received unusual verbal orders to find tens of millions for the Starlink initiative. Musk has claimed air traffic control communications are failing and promised Starlink terminals at no cost for emergency connectivity. However, the FAA has not publicly confirmed the cancellation of the Verizon deal, stating that they are still evaluating their options, including Starlink.
Anonymous sources told Rolling Stone that the orders from FAA officials on Friday were 'delivered verbally' to staff, in an 'unusual' move.
Musk claimed on X that the situation around air traffic control communications is 'extremely dire,' saying the existing system...is 'breaking down very rapidly.'
The FAA claimed it's 'been considering the use of Starlink since the prior administration.'
As recently as Wednesday, though, the FAA said...that it had not made a decision about its Verizon deal.
