Mark Cirillo, a Long Island business owner, bravely maneuvered one of his trucks through thick smoke and flames to save AutoGate Systems Inc. from devastating wildfires in the Hamptons. The fire resulted in damage to the business and its projects, yet Cirillo managed to evacuate vehicles amidst the chaos while witnessing an impressive response from over 90 emergency agencies. Despite losing some materials, Cirillo felt grateful as the situation could have been much worse, highlighting the heroic efforts from fire departments and emergency services during the emergency.
I was fortunate. I was able to move the vehicles out of the way. Just as quick as the fire came up, it blew over us and went across the street.
Every fire department on Long Island was here. It was something to see. The Apache helicopters were dropping 500-gallon buckets of water right here.
