'Blue Highways' Moves Forward With New Freight Dock At Hunts Point Market - Streetsblog New York City
Briefly

New waterfront freight facilities are set to enhance maritime transport in NYC, particularly from the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center. The Bronx-based Con Agg Global will launch a dock focused on moving food through the city’s waterways, aiming to alleviate truck traffic significantly—removing up to 1,000 trucks monthly. This initiative reflects NYC's broader strategy to shift freight transportation from road to water, promoting sustainability. The temporary structure will facilitate initial operations while a larger modular barge system is developed. City officials believe more of the city's produce will eventually be transported via water routes.
Some 25 percent of the city's produce passes through Hunts Point. City officials expect the new dock to take on 'more and more' of that produce.
The goal is, over time, to move more and more of this food out of Hunts Point not by truck, but by water with e-cargo trikes.
