Alpaca raises $52M Series C to take its API brokerage platform to new markets | TechCrunch
Briefly

Alpaca, a San Mateo-based startup, has raised $52 million in a Series C funding round to expand its API trading services for global markets. Already supporting over 5 million brokerage accounts across 40 countries, Alpaca plans to enhance global trading by obtaining additional regulatory licenses beyond the U.S., Japan, and the Bahamas. The funding will facilitate the introduction of new products, including European and Asian equities, and enable 24/5 trading of U.S. stocks as it intensifies its global reach.
"The [recent] fundraising for us is very important because this is really a catalyst to go global infrastructure, instead of the U.S.-only anchored company and platform," Yokokawa said.
"We first needed to create a globally functioning infrastructure [in 2018] that would enable people to trade more easily on international markets, something that was quite difficult before."
