In 2011, Sam Mink and Anthony Padilla purchased a loft featured in the 1993 movie Philadelphia, drawn by its open layout, high ceilings, and prime location. The 2,000 square-foot space retained elements from the film, such as a wood-burning stove. Despite initially finding the apartment suitable, their lifestyle changed after welcoming their son via surrogacy in 2014, leading to the realization that the loft wasn't ideal for young children and prompting a reevaluation of their living circumstances.
Mr. Mink expressed, 'We were totally wowed... It had a roof deck and open floor plan, plus a ceiling that rose to 16 feet.'
Mr. Padilla noted the apartment's prime location, stating, 'The building was near grocery stores and restaurants, and came with a prized off-street parking spot.'
