On a Monday evening, Jeff French Segall captured stunning images of two men performing acrobatic poses atop the El Dorado's twin towers, nearly 400 feet above the ground. The serene scene sparked amazement among residents and news coverage. However, the building's management mistakenly decried the photos as fabrications, claiming they were deepfakes, causing outrage from Segall, who defended the authenticity of his images. The incident led to a public debate over perception versus reality within a high-value, high-profile community.
The white-glove co-op's management, however, did not. On Tuesday, it sent a letter to El Dorado's residents calling the photos a hoax: The police had launched an investigation.
Segall was shocked. 'I thought in my mind that probably the door people were going to get reamed,' he told me. 'But I certainly never could've imagined that they were going to impugn my word - my good name!'
