Toronto is drafting a new renovictions bylaw. Here's how to have your say | CBC News
Briefly

Geordie Dent, executive director of Federation of Metro Tenants' Associations, emphasized the urgency of a new bylaw: 'There's no reason for tenants to wait that long to get protection from eviction fraud.' He pointed out that fraudulent eviction notices are widespread, stating, 'Tens of thousands of tenants annually receive fraudulent eviction notices from landlords attempting to defraud them of their rental contract. In many of these cases, the landlord has no intention of actually doing work.'
Daryl Chong, president and CEO of the Greater Toronto Apartment Association, argued against the necessity of a new bylaw, saying, 'Renovictions are covered by the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) and that there's no need for a bylaw.' He reiterated the association's stance against fraudulent practices, asserting that they 'will work with the city to address issues rather than implement more regulations.'
