A new WalletHub report highlights America's housing landscape, ranking 300 cities by affordability factors like home prices, taxes, and vacancy rates. Flint, Michigan, emerged as the most affordable city for home buyers, offering low costs despite a high vacancy rate from past crises. Conversely, New York, particularly New York City, ranks very low in affordability, with tough competition from cities like Buffalo, Rochester, and Yonkers struggling further down the list. The Rust Belt is positioned as a promising area for value-seeking buyers amidst rising costs elsewhere.
Flint, Michigan; Detroit; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, took the top spots. Flint ranked as the No. 1 most affordable city for home buyers, based on WalletHub's multi-pronged rating system.
Unfortunately for New Yorkers, the Empire State offers little refuge. WalletHub ranked 300 cities across 10 metrics, including home cost, maintenance, tax rates and vacancy rates. New York City was the only non-Californian locale to rank among WalletHub's 10 least affordable cities in which to buy a home.
