In early 2025, Syracuse, NY witnessed the highest increase in home prices across the U.S., with a median sales price of $234,300, growing approximately 18% year-over-year. This surge is attributed to dwindling inventory, dropping from 1,500 listings in 2019 to just 560, intensifying competition among buyers. Other cities also experienced double-digit growth, including Montgomery, AL, and various cities in Ohio, suggesting a broader trend of rising home values in populous areas, particularly in New York and Ohio.
"As a result, the market continues to see intense competition, which has driven prices higher," says Jones.
"This figure represents the largest annual home price growth in the U.S., reaching $234,300," according to the latest quarterly housing report.
"Fast-forward to the beginning of 2025, the number of active listings in Syracuse plunged to 560 on a typical dayâalmost 1,000 fewer homes for sale than six years ago."
"Known as the seat of Syracuse University, this city of nearly 150,000, popular with budget buyers thanks to its affordable housing and relatively low living costs."
