Bowen Goh and Vanessa Li, who run the Bushwick bar Mood Ring, transformed a three-story Bed-Stuy townhouse into their serene shared space, focusing on preserving its historic elements while creating modern comforts. They collaborated with Colverd Studio and Vernacular Works for the renovation, combining old-world charm with contemporary design. While their work in nightlife influenced their creative decisions, they made it clear that their home was to be a peaceful retreat from the bustling party scene.
"When you work where it's loud and there's lots of people around, you just want complete quiet and serenity at home," Goh says.
"We gave specific care and attention to the crumbling tin ceilings and brick party walls, which were limewash, to create a rich interplay between the old and the new," says Max Dowd of Vernacular Works.
"Given how expensive homes are now, we were realizing a lot of people are buying homes with their friends as opposed to their romantic partners," Goh says.
"This would not be the after-after-party house," Goh says, emphasizing their desire for a quiet home.
