NYC highlights improvements to combat flooding Since IDA
Briefly

Since Hurricane Ida, we've prioritized substantial infrastructure improvements to curb flooding. Upgrades to sewer systems and the introduction of green infrastructures have significantly enhanced our city’s resilience against climate impacts.
In the wake of Hurricane Ida, we realized the critical need for preventative measures. By distributing flood kits equipped with sump pumps and alarms, we are empowering residents to protect themselves against floods.
The fatalities during Ida were largely tied to basement apartments flooding. Ensuring every resident, especially in these vulnerable homes, has a flood sensor is as essential as having a smoke alarm.
With the installation of 200 street-level flood sensors, residents can actively monitor flood risks. This initiative underscores our commitment to enhancing public safety and providing real-time data during severe weather events.
