kengo kuma & buro happold simulate floating timber roof over lisbon's CAM gulbenkian
Briefly

The newly redesigned CAM Gulbenkian features a striking canopy, inspired by the Japanese engawa, which bridges the indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing its architectural dialogue.
Buro Happold's innovative engineering resulted in a free-standing timber canopy supported by slender steel columns, achieving a balance between aesthetics and structural stability.
The roof design, spanning 100 meters, represents a complex interplay of simplicity and elegance, symbolizing both functionality and a poetic relationship with the surrounding landscape.
The redesign transformed CAM Gulbenkian into a cohesive part of the Gulbenkian Foundation campus, integrating art, nature, and architecture in new and exciting ways.
