Exclusive | Shame campaign: NYC landlord posts signs calling out tenant he claims stiffed him
Briefly

A landlord in Queens has publicly displayed signs labeling his tenant as a "shameless" non-payer after she allegedly skipped a month's rent. Fenel Augustin stated that the signs serve as a warning to the neighborhood about Andsuse Marc, who not only defaulted on her December payment but also hosted loud parties that drew numerous noise complaints. After paying January's rent, Augustin returned the money and demanded she vacate the property, prompting his public display of frustration, which echoes similar actions by other landlords facing tenant disputes.
"You're basically letting the whole neighborhood know that this person is not paying rent, [and] if that person has character, they should be trying to move [out] quicker," Augustin, 41, told The Post about the renter, whom he ripped as "shameless."
Between 2020 to 2024, people filed 25 noise complaints about loud music and parties at the address, according to the city's 311 records. "When I get off at 12 o'clock [at midnight], I don't want to hear a party, I don't want to have to fight for parking," said one 33-year-old neighbor.
Augustin said his shame campaign was inspired by a pair of aggrieved landlords who in 2022 had similar issues, and they created visible signs to express their frustration.
Marc, who allegedly refused to sign a new lease in 2021, did not pay December's rent, but coughed up the cash for January, the landlord claimed. But Augustin returned the payment and demanded she move out.
