Last summer, the Forzaglias got serious about finding a smaller place to buy - one that would require a smaller monthly outlay - in the area east of Central Park. They were willing to sacrifice prewar charm for a cookie-cutter one-bedroom in a newish co-op building, aimed at better infrastructure and cost predictability.
Charm is more expensive, Mrs. Forzaglia said, as they set a budget of up to $700,000 to purchase a newish co-op one-bedroom which they felt offered better infrastructure with lower risk.
