"The College Point sewer project was one of my top priorities since taking office," said Council Member Vickie Paladino. "I could see how the people of College Point had suffered under this long-delayed project, and I took aggressive action to see its completion." This statement reflects the commitment of local leadership to address community issues through infrastructural improvements.
In total, the project covered 100 blocks, upgrading over eight miles of sewers and six miles of water mains. With extensive renovations to sidewalks and roads, the scope of the work aimed not only to enhance infrastructure but also to significantly reduce flooding incidents that have plagued the area.
The overall project, geared towards improving residents' quality of life also saw 30 trees added and over 8,000 square feet of wetlands restored. Such restoration efforts not only beautify the neighborhood but play a direct role in mitigating flooding.
To improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians, the project included upgrading 226 pedestrian ramps to meet ADA compliance and spreading 24 acres of new asphalt across the neighborhood's roads, ensuring that community enhancements address both usability and functionality.
