Sotheby's will auction pieces from the collections of esteemed art dealers Barbara Gladstone and Daniella Luxembourg in New York this May. Posthumously, Gladstone, who founded her gallery in 1980 and represented numerous notable artists, expressed that the art world has drastically changed. She revealed her hesitance to start a gallery today, indicating a shift towards mega-galleries. The auction includes sought-after works such as an Andy Warhol Black Flowers piece and a Richard Prince painting, showcasing the personal connection and appreciation Gladstone held for her collection.
Gladstone formed her gallery in very different times-the art world was much smaller then, and when asked what she would do differently, she said: 'I probably wouldn't do it.'
Sotheby's will present 11 lots from Gladstone's collection in its contemporary art evening sale on 15 May in New York, including a 1964 Black Flowers painting by Andy Warhol.
