A historical preservation nonprofit has determined that Mayor Adams has overseen the fewest landmark designations per year since the creation of the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Andrew Berman stated, "This really for the first time in indisputable numbers shows that the level of activity has just changed in a way that's fairly unprecedented in the history of the Commission."
A spokesperson emphasized that under Adams, the goal has been to safeguard historic resources across all five boroughs, highlighting new landmark sites reflecting cultural equity.
The report indicates that the equity framework initiated by former Mayor de Blasio has increased the diversity of designations, ensuring more stories of all New Yorkers are told.
