President Trump's Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, granted Governor Kathy Hochul a 30-day extension to dismantle the controversial congestion pricing scheme in New York. Duffy's aggressive communication criticized Hochul for disrespecting federal interests and continued toll collection despite a federal ultimatum. He emphasized that federal funding to New York is contingent on compliance and hinted that Hochul's negotiations regarding pipeline projects may have influenced this temporary reprieve. Hochul and MTA officials plan to maintain toll collections even as legal disputes regarding the program unfold in court.
"Your unlawful pricing scheme charges working-class citizens to use roads their federal tax dollars already paid to build," he angrily wrote, before giving Hochul some leeway.
"Know that the billions of dollars the federal government sends to New York are not a blank check. Continued noncompliance will not be taken lightly," he warned.
