Early Thursday morning, a series of NYPD police cars were vandalized by a suspect who set fire to 11 vehicles in a Brooklyn parking lot. This incident occurred close to a police station, prompting strong condemnation from Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. Adams suggested a connection to anti-ICE protests occurring nationwide, although he did not provide concrete evidence. Preliminary investigations revealed surveillance footage of the suspects and details of their actions during the event, which resulted in significant property damage but no reported injuries.
The officer 'interrupted the perpetrator as he was setting fire to a number of vehicles, at which point the perpetrator threw a piece of plywood and fled through an alleyway,' Tisch said.
Mayor Eric Adams emphasized, 'We have stated over and over again, everyone has a right to peaceful protest. You do not have a right to destroy property of the City of New York.'
