SOS Staten Island: NYS program to hit ferry, train, to battle borough homelessness
Briefly

On December 29, 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the expansion of New York's Safe Options Support (SOS) program to Staten Island. The program aims to assist homeless individuals, particularly those suffering from mental illness and substance abuse, by connecting them with vital services and stable housing. This initiative, which has already been successful in the other boroughs since its 2023 inception, will deploy outreach teams to transportation hubs on Staten Island to identify homeless individuals and offer them the support they need for lasting stability in their lives.
"New York's Safe Options Support (SOS), which has been active throughout the rest of the city since 2023, connects homeless individuals suffering from mental illness and substance abuse with important services and stable housing."
"By expanding this effort to Staten Island, we can help more New Yorkers connect with the support they can rely on to bring lasting stability in their lives."
