In response to a recent hit-and-run incident that injured a 9-year-old girl, Bronx politicians, particularly Council Member Eric Dinowitz and Assembly Member Jeffrey Dinowitz, have called for enhanced street safety in Riverdale. They advocate for installation of speed bumps and four-way stop signs, despite the Department of Transportation's previous denial of similar requests due to low crash rates. Dinowitz highlighted the ongoing fear residents face while walking in the area, criticizing DOT's past safety measures and advocating for more effective community-responsive solutions.
This isn't a unique experience in this neighborhood...when residents walk to and from school, they live with fear, fear that they are gonna get hit by a car.
I didn’t oppose the redesign...but DOT was 'undemocratic' and guilty of 'constant misrepresentation of facts and the lack of responsiveness to the community.'
