May 2025 marked a record month for the MTA's congestion pricing program, generating $61 million, up from $56.7 million in April. The co-chief financial officer, Jai Patel, attributed this success to a longer month and favorable weather that increased traffic. While expenses were $10.9 million, the program's overall revenue reached $219 million in 2025, on course to meet its $500 million target for transit projects. Interestingly, despite the revenue increase, the number of vehicles entering the congestion relief zone dropped significantly compared to historical averages.
"It's actually the highest month we've seen. May has 31 days in it, but also as the weather gets warmer, we see increased traffic within our bridges and tunnels, and so, we are seeing the same in the zone."
"All indicators show that we are on track to bring in $500 million in revenue for the program, as we had projected."
