Zohran Mamdani is restructuring his campaign as he transitions from underdog status to Democratic nominee for the general election. He has appointed Maya Handa as his new campaign manager to lead the organization, after her role in state Sen. Zellnor Myrie's unsuccessful primary campaign. Mamdani's strategy aims to appeal to moderate voters. Additional key hires include Afua Atta-Mensah as senior political director and Deandra Khan as director of labor and intergovernmental affairs, managing relationships with unions and elected officials.
Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani is making a number of changes to his campaign team as he shifts from his far-left underdog status in the primary to a Democratic nominee intent on uniting his big-tent party in the November general election.
Mamdani has hired Maya Handa as his new campaign manager. Handa will lead Mamdani's general election organization after serving in the same role on state Sen. Zellnor Myrie's failed Democratic primary campaign.
Myrie finished in the second round of ranked-choice voting in the primary with just 1% of the vote. While he is also a progressive, Myrie clearly ran to Mamdani's right during that race.
Deandra Khan will manage the campaign's relationships with labor unions and elected officials as Mamdani's director of labor and intergovernmental affairs.
