NYC Mayor's Race: Former Gov. Paterson backs Adams, drops bid for Mamdani rivals to coalesce | amNewYork
Briefly

Former Gov. David Paterson endorsed incumbent Mayor Eric Adams for reelection, deeming the effort for candidates to unify against Democatic nominee Zohran Mamdani pointless. Citing a long-term relationship with Adams, Paterson praised the mayor’s management over the past 3 1/2 years, highlighting his dynamic and courageous leadership. Adams reciprocated the praise, stressing Paterson's deep understanding of his commitment to the city and acknowledging his influence on government changes. Adams is running as an independent after bypassing the Democratic primary.
"This afternoon, I'm here to stand for someone who has already run this city as mayor for nearly four years, and has made huge changes over the past administration, going back probably to the Bloomberg administration," Paterson said of Adams during an Aug. 13 City Hall news conference.
"He is an individual who is dynamic, articulate, receptive, courageous and outspoken, and he's used all of those skills to bring the city to where it stands right now." Paterson praised Adams during his endorsement.
