NY prison guards ordered to end illegal strikes after Kathy Hochul files suit: 'Causing undue fear'
Briefly

New York Governor Kathy Hochul successfully sought a court injunction to halt wildcat strikes by prison guards, which violated the Public Employee's Fair Employment Act. After her lawsuit, Justice Siwek ordered correction officers to return to work amidst growing unrest across 30 state prisons. The governor also deployed over 3,500 National Guard members to maintain security and support amid ongoing protests regarding working conditions. Hochul appreciated the dedication of staff who remained on duty and appointed a mediator to resolve the situation.
These disruptive and unsanctioned work stoppages by some correction officers must end as they are jeopardizing the safety of their colleagues, the prison population, and causing undue fear for the residents in the surrounding communities.
While I am confident we will resolve this illegal strike, I am grateful for the thousands of correction officers and staff that are continuing to report for duty - I thank them for their continued service and for doing the right thing.
