Governor Hochul has promised a solution to the MTA’s funding crisis within months, but key legislators are unaware of any meaningful discussions taking place regarding replacement funding.
Despite pausing congestion pricing, which aimed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 11% and traffic by 17%, Hochul did not provide a concrete plan for alternative funding.
Hochul said she is "committed to ensuring that there are benefits for the people who live in those areas," without outlining how these benefits will materialize.
The congestion pricing plan, while controversial, was intended to improve air quality and ease record-high traffic congestion in one of the world’s most congested urban areas.
