New York Takes First Step In Sweepstakes Casino Ban
Briefly

New York is moving to prohibit sweepstakes casinos with the passage of bill S5935 by the State Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering committee. Introduced by Sen. Joseph Addabbo, the bill aims to ban these gambling platforms outright and restrict support from financial and technological entities. The legislation establishes significant fines for non-compliance and emphasizes enforcement by state authorities. As New Yorkers currently rely on sweepstakes operators for online gambling, the ban reflects a growing trend to regulate or eliminate these operations, following similar measures in neighboring states like Connecticut.
"We have these online sweepstakes casinos that basically look a lot like casinos games, but they go unregulated," said Addabbo.
"A lot of kids have temptations; they don't need another one," said Tedisco.
