Congressman Josh Gottheimer urged the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to refund New Jersey commuters for tolls incurred under New York's congestion pricing, calling the situation "outrageous." This follows a controversial stance from Governor Kathy Hochul, who insisted Jersey drivers aren't obligated to enter New York. The issue intensified after U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy rescinded federal approval of the congestion tolls, leading to the MTA suing the federal government. Gottheimer criticized Hochul's dismissive comments towards Jersey commuters, emphasizing their vital contributions to New York's economy.
"If New York insisted on keeping the cameras in place, they should be prepared to reimburse every Jersey commuter for the tolls they're paying. Hardworking Jersey families should not be forced to continue to bail out the MTA's woeful and legendary mismanagement."
"I personally would like to have all the New York teams play in New York ... I'm not proposing that the federal government go annex the Meadowlands," Hochul blasted.
