Federal prosecutors from the Eastern District of New York and the FBI confirmed the arrests. The charges against Sun and Hu remained sealed until later Tuesday when they are expected to appear in court.
Sun worked in state government for about 15 years before being fired last year for misconduct. Her career included roles as deputy chief of staff under Hochul and in Andrew Cuomo's administration, showcasing a lengthy involvement in public service.
The FBI had searched the Manhasset home in July prior to the arrests, but officials have clarified there is no connection between Hochul’s work and the arrests of Sun and Hu.
