Hochul beat back objections from the dock workers' union to push through a new unit to replace the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor, with support from state lawmakers.
The new commission, similar to its predecessor, will conduct investigations into organized crime, enforce fair hiring practices, conduct background checks, and have the authority to remove employees engaged in criminal activities.
