"Unfairly, less populated states have outsized influence and in fact, the votes of their residents count more than a state like New York," Hochul stated.
"Consider that a single elector in Wyoming represents 200,000 residents and in New York an elector represents 700,000," Hochul explained, highlighting the disproportionality.
Many Democrats voiced their discontent with the Electoral College after Trump's victories in 2016 and the recent elections, echoing Hochul's sentiments.
Hochul emphasized the need to amend the Constitution, arguing that the Electoral College is a convoluted system that needs to be abolished.
