Jim Walden, an independent lawyer known for his anti-corruption efforts in NYC, is contemplating a run for mayor as a Republican. He is currently engaging with local GOP leaders to gain support while emphasizing his centrist values including public safety and fiscal responsibility. Despite a crowded Democratic field, Walden criticizes the candidates produced by the party and expresses interest in collaborating with the Trump administration on key issues. His shift parallels previous mayors who transitioned to the Republican party for their campaigns.
"My goals will always be governed by common sense," Walden said. "But many of them align with centrist Republicans. I believe in safety as the first priority, fiscal responsibility, cutting waste and promoting efficiency in government agencies."
"As I have traveled the city and spoken to supporters, many have urged me to run as a Republican, given the terrible candidates the Democratic machine has produced: socialists, grifters, and opportunists," Walden told The Post.
